The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Schmal, strongly condemns the missile attack that occurred in Kryvylih last Friday. This attack resulted in over ten deaths, including at least nine children, and multiple injuries.

Schmele expressed his deep anger towards Russia's renewed attack on this city located in the Dnipro region.

He pointed out that Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, is still under wave after wave of attacks, and the large-scale strikes the night before were shocking.

He emphasized that civilians have paid an unbearable price for this. According to international humanitarian law, civilians should be protected and should not be targeted for attack.

The withering of young life
The United Nations Children's Fund is also shocked by this tragedy and calls for an immediate halt to attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine.

Regina de Dominique, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at UNICEF, is deeply saddened by the shocking attack that occurred in Krivilikh. According to reports, the attack resulted in the death of at least nine children and multiple injuries, with the youngest victim being only three months old.

According to reports, the attack occurred in the evening when missiles hit a residential area in the Saksahanski district, where many families were gathering before the weekend arrived. The missile landed near a children's playground, and the explosion affected surrounding residential areas, schools, and a restaurant.

Dominics said that at the scene of devastation, parents were holding their children's bodies and crying uncontrollably. No child should experience such fear, and no family should bear such grief.

Deprived Future
UNICEF and its partners are taking swift action to provide psychological and material support to affected families, and coordinating emergency assistance measures with local governments.

Dominicus pointed out that since Russia launched a full-scale military attack on Ukraine in February 2022, over 2500 children have been killed or injured in the war, and the lives of millions of children have been completely changed.

She said that every child's death is a fading of the future, and the use of explosive weapons, attacks on civilian facilities and infrastructure in residential areas must be immediately stopped. These behaviors have caused extremely serious and irreversible harm to children.
